Nodes in Aquarius Leo: Shadow Drama, Feelings and Sovereign Fire

The lunar nodes of fate recently shifting into the Aquarius-Leo axis marked a change in what we’re being invited, or forced, to rebalance through shedding (south node in Leo) and allowing in (north node in Aquarius). We are also deep in eclipse season, with the first of the pair occurring tomorrow morning, a new moon in Leo on Thursday 13th August at 3:36am AEST.

Leo rules the heart and spine and is ruled by the Sun. It celebrates authentic creative expression, joy, pleasure, play and performance. It is the spotlighted star on the stage being seen and admired by the audience (Aquarius).

Aquarius decentralises and creates distance to get a view of the patterns and systems at play. It rules the lower legs, connective tissues and the peripheral systems, including the vessels that distribute and return blood between the heart and the peripheries.

Leo and Aquarius describe the relationship between our subjective experience and objective perspective, and between our individual uniqueness and how it contributes to the collective and vice versa.

The invitation is to bring consciousness to (shine the light of the Sun on) the unconscious egoic drama of our lives, the shadow side of Leo, so we can become more empowered, authentic and alive. These shadow aspects are the unconscious and disempowering stories we tell and the roles that we take on and ascribe to others in the low drama triangle; the Victim (powerless, overwhelmed), Perpetrator (blaming, attacking) and Saviour (fixing, placating).

In my feelings-informed training I’ve been learning about how unconscious feelings, the ones that haven’t been acknowledged, claimed or taken responsibility for, feed into low drama. In the shadow, feelings can build emotional charge around them, which then become the unconscious motivations behind our behaviour and relational dynamics. The Victim is fed by unconscious sadness, the Perpetrator by unconscious anger, and the Saviour by unconscious fear.

Our overculture shames and problematises feelings, but we actually need them to help us navigate our lives. We are always feeling the energy of all of the four core feelings of anger, sadness, fear and joy to different degrees, and they all serve a particular purpose. When we consciously embody and take responsibility for our feelings, we can use their energy for their purpose in an empowering way and choose to access the high drama version of the low drama role we are playing.

The energy of anger lives in our bones and helps us to gain clarity, take action and hold space for our experience. When the Perpetrator becomes conscious of their anger, they can choose to stop blaming and attacking others and instead access the Warrior archetype, someone who protects what they value by responsibly expressing anger and creating boundaries.

Sadness lives in our soft tissues (muscles, organs) and fluids and helps us connect to ourselves and others. When the Victim is able to feel their sadness, they can use that energy to soften their hold onto being powerless and overwhelmed and create intimacy with themselves and others as the Lover.

Fear helps us take in information through our nervous system. When the Saviour becomes conscious of their fear, they can choose to release control, and instead use that energy to trust their intuition, gain wisdom and create transformation as the Magician.

Unconscious joy manifests as the Gremlin, the sneaky part of us that feeds off low drama and sabotages our efforts to expand out of the safe familiarity of the unconscious roles we play and to be seen. It finds pleasure in other people’s suffering and enacts the very things we despise in others.

Conscious joy is a magnetising force that emanates from our cell walls, draws what we desire and allows us to be seen for who we are. The thing about conscious joy, though, is that we can only access it by consciously feeling our anger, fear and sadness. Joy is the aliveness and appreciation that results from allowing and receiving the full emotional human experience. The sign that precedes Leo is Cancer which is ruled by the moon, the embodiment of emotional intelligence.

Conscious joy gives us access to the archetype often known as the King, Queen or Sovereign, but here I’m calling the Autonomous Being; someone who lives in alignment with their values and purpose, is authentically generous and confident, and an inspiring leader who embodies a power-with ethos. In Chinese medicine, the Heart is highest in the hierarchy, served and protected by the other organs, and is the element of Sovereign Fire.

Until early 2028, we are being called to use Aquarius energy to become the audience to our own dramas, to become aware of what stories and roles we are repeating so we can make new choices and expand our possibilities, and be seen in our authentic power. The roles we are playing, and we play them all, can give us clues as to which unconscious feelings are leading the drama and want to be consciously felt.

Eclipses are superpowered lunations associated with fated events that dramatically alter our reality. This can confront us with our own powerlessness and therefore activate our Victim ego identity. Go gently and compassionately.
