For Every Expansion There’s An Equal Reaction: Aquarius Eclipse

Eclipse season has come around again. Time moves faster, the vibe feels intenser and revelations break through the surface. This Tuesday night there will be a new moon eclipse (Sun and Moon together) in Aquarius, in a tense aspect to Uranus, which is the modern ruler of Aquarius.

Aquarius is an objective view that is able to see systems, how they work, how they connect, and figure out what needs to change to make them function to support the future you want to create. It’s also the collective and your unique role in its system. It rules the nervous system, being able to see how trauma affects its function, and using technology to change it.

Uranus rules electricity and holds the energy of shock, surprise, disruption, rebellion and breaking free from the past.

What is really alive for me at the moment is how for people who have a nervous system that was shaped by the need to convince itself that it’s safe when it’s not in order to survive can have a very confusing time with trauma healing. Safety feels like danger because it meant that something bad was about to happen, and danger feels like safety because it’s familiar and expected.

While doing trauma healing work and having an experience of feeling safe in the nervous system in a way that’s beyond what’s been previously experienced, the nervous system can then react with a stress response such as dissociation, fear and anger. For every expansion there’s an equal contraction. This can lead to confusion, disillusionment and shame because it feels like we’re going backwards after having a moment of going forwards.

The medicine (or technology) here is to remember the larger context of why this is happening, that the stress response is our body being really intelligent and trying to keep us safe, and it’s a natural response to traversing new frontiers. Unshaming and embracing the process, reparenting and attuning to it like the younger part of us that it is, allows us to change our relationship to our body and our trauma and maybe even find some joy and fortitude in the process.
